I turned off double breaker hit this red reset button and then turned power back on and there was a big clunk at the water heater so do i assume it tripped itself again. No hot water the cause could be a lack of power wrong wiring or connections leaks malfunctioning heating elements lightning caused damage high voltage short circuit blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker. Many water heaters have a second cover plate near the top underneath this plate is usually where you will find the reset button.
